At BNP Paribas, our commitment to clients is paramount, along with the long-term investments we make in the communities we serve and our staff.
In the U.S., more than 1,200 employees participated in volunteer initiatives in 2013, and the Bank was recognized as “Corporate Partner of the Year” by Jersey Cares, one of our regional partner organizations, for our support toward Superstorm Sandy Relief. On a global level, BNP Paribas supported over 3,500 philanthropy projects in 2013, in areas such as culture, health, education, solidarity, and the environment, contributing approximately $55 million, $10 million of which were attributed to projects in the United States.
BNP Paribas also maintains its strong support of diversity and inclusion in and out of the workplace. In the U.S., BNP Paribas has been named “Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign for the last three consecutive years (2012–2014), and has been named by U.S. energy leader Exelon as a Honor Roll partner for recognizing diversity in every facet of its business. Furthermore, BNP Paribas is the exclusive banking partner and sponsor of the inaugural launch of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day at the United Nations on November 19, 2014.
Corporate Social Responsibility is at the heart of BNP Paribas’ mission and strategy. It is structured around four core pillars:
Our commitment goes beyond philanthropy and inclusion
BNP Paribas is committed to financing sectors that have significant impacts on local job creation and the strengthening of society, from growing support for social entrepreneurship and microfinance from $168 million in 2013 to a $200 million objective in 2015, to financing the renewable energy sector with nearly €6.5 billion in loans granted, including €2 billion in project finance.
This commitment also includes actions to face the major challenges posed by sustainable development. BNP Paribas signed the 2014 Global Investor Statement on Climate Change and BNP Paribas Investment Partners, along with 11 other asset managers, committed to actively support the growth of the Green Bond market by unveiling the Investor Statement on Green Bonds & Climate Bonds. BNP Paribas was also one of the initial 13 signatories of the Green Bond Principles early 2014.
BNP Paribas’ efforts around sustainable business are regularly recognized globally. BNP Paribas retained its title as No. 1 bank in Vigeo’s CSR world ranking for 2013 and placed 2nd in Bloomberg’s 2014 ranking of the “World’s Greenest Banks.” BNP Paribas is also the only French bank listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), ranking as a leader in environmental performance.
