Business Overview:

Market Integrity centers on the idea that markets, which are corrupt and inefficient, are unattractive to investors. Regulators, law enforcement, exchanges, financial institutions, and investors all rely on the orderly operation of financial markets to provide a foundation of economic growth and efficient access to capital. The violation of these principles can cause severe disruptions in investor confidence and ultimately threaten the stability of the financial system. The Americas Control Room (“Control Room”) is a part of the Market Integrity Group within the Ethics and Compliance Department, which provides transversal support to all the business functions performed by BNP Paribas in the Americas. The Control Room implements policies and procedures reasonably designed to prevent the misuse of material non-public information. It is mandated to monitor and control the flow of inside information within BNP Paribas Americas and amongst various legal entities which, in addition to the United States include Canada, Hispanic Latin America (“LatAm”), Brazil, and Mexico. Legal BNPP entities which fall under this purview include BNP Paribas U.S. branches, agencies, representative offices, CIB Canada, CIB LatAm, Brazil, Mexico, and CIB U.S.

Responsibilities:

Under the Market Integrity framework, the Americas Control Room: (1) Ensures that information barriers between public-side and private-side businesses are fully operational and robust; (2) Enforce controls that are reasonably designed to prevent the misuse of material non-public information (“MNPI”); and (3) provide essential support to the BNP Paribas/Exane Research platform. Key responsibilities germane to this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Clearance of Research materials (e.g., Industry Reports).
  • Review of vetting requests from Global Banking (e.g., ECM) and arrange subsequent meetings between the parties.
  • Chaperone communications between Bankers and Research Analysts.
  • Review Corporate Access and Public appearance requests.
  • Obtain updates to the firm’s Global Watch and Grey Lists from Global Banking teams, as needed, to facilitate the clearance of Research materials.
  • Track new industry initiatives and developments and participate in meetings concerning implementation of any new requirements.
  • Establish written guidance on the appropriate implementation of regulatory requirements, laws, rules and standards through policies and procedures and other documents.
  • Conduct training as directed to educate the bankers and Research Analysts on various Compliance/regulatory topics.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • BA or BS Degree required. 
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of experience performing Research compliance activities (e.g., clearance of research materials, chaperoning, etc.) in a financial services firm.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. securities rules and regulations, especially those of FINRA (i.e., FINRA Rules 2241 and 2242) and the SEC (i.e., SEC Rule 138, 139, 10b-5).   
  • Strong ability to apply knowledge of rules and regulations to various types of banking activities and operational arrangements.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills, including writing, with the ability to interact effectively with and across regions and various levels of management and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple undertakings at the same time and with different level of granularity, constantly keeping focus on priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Product knowledge (Equities/Derivatives, Fixed Income, etc.).
  • Prior experience with a financial services firm in a Control Room, Compliance, and/or self-regulatory organization.
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Securities licenses preferred (Series 79, 63, 87).
  • Master’s degree (JD preferred).

The expected starting salary range for this position in San Francisco is between $110,000 and $177,000 annually. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.
