BUSINESS OVERVIEW:

Our Global Markets Americas (GMA) team works with a variety of clients, including governments, multinationals, private banks and global institutions. From hedging and financing opportunities across every asset class, to research and market intelligence, our clients rely on us to develop and deliver market-leading solutions and impeccable service as standard.

The GMA COO and Transversal Internship Program in Chesterbrook, PA is rotational – you will have two rotations during the 10 weeks, each approximately 5 weeks long. There are a multitude of teams you could be placed on. Some of the potential groups include: 

  • Business Management – this team contributes directly to the business development and its sound operation. It also facilitates and optimize the interaction between the Front Office and its Business Partners.
  • Sales and Trading Support (SATA) – this team works directly with Sales and Trading to provide best in class pre and post trade execution to clients. The teams also act as the liaison between the Front Office and its Business Partners for trade related activities
  • Electronic Client Solutions (ECS) – this team represents the backbone of BNP Paribas’s Electronic trading offerings and providing a single point of contact for Client queries for all our Electronic products and services. ECS supports Clients, ECNs and external counterparties, in conjunction with eSales and Voice sales teams, and is responsible for Client Onboarding, Client Support and vendor/account management across all our Ecommerce platforms
  • Institutional Client Development (Client Dev) – this team in the Americas supports the growth of the client franchise and the execution of initiatives across the platform. Client Dev is organized around four pillars of focus: Market Intelligence to provide management with strategic analysis focused on benchmarking performance, Client Strategic Planning to improve results through effective identification and planning around priority accounts; Business Development to identify new growth opportunities and develop a strategic roadmap to implement initiatives and support Sales and FIC in execution and the Promotion of Tools to supporting the digitalization and adoption of tools and analytics and contribute to their development
  • e-Commerce & Digital (e-C&D) – this team is a transversal department that drives the electronification and digitalization of our Global Markets division. Within the e-Commerce space, our focus is to manage the evolution and the enhancement of our electronic platforms to increase our footprint and create innovations for our clients and teams. We drive Digital transformation and are directly responsible for delivering new digital products and services
  • Front Office Conduct & Surveillance (FOCS AMER) – this team is comprised of former Sales and Trading professionals across asset classes. Our aim is to proactively strengthen our controls within each business line to prevent potential misconduct that can adversely affect the bank and our clients.
  • Operations Permanent Control (OPC) – this team is part of the Global Markets Americas Chief Conduct and Controls Office. The GMA OPC framework is a key component in the assessment and management of non-financial risks and implementation of the controls framework. Our goal is to be trusted risk managers for the desks, accomplished through expertise within our business lines (Global Equities, Global Macro, Global Credit, Deck and tech platforms)

As a GFS intern, you can expect to:

  • Perform analysis of existing and prospective counterparties and their beneficial owners for U.S. sanctions related risks, document and report findings, and communicate to management
  • Review of relevant KYC information, including beneficial owners, products/services offered, industry, jurisdiction, and negative news regarding business relationships under review
  • Assist with strategic and tactical projects focused on sanctions risk mitigation, transaction monitoring, risk assessments, audits, circumvention reporting, and voluntary self-disclosures
  • Partner closely with business and Compliance counterparts to understand sanctions related issues, to process accordingly and provide opinions towards resolution
  • Conduct focused or transversal reviews of specified entities across the globe to assess risk monitoring business practices, siting deficiencies and providing recommendations for action plans
  • Review regulatory guidelines to draft and approve sanctions related policies for broad acceptance across all compliance teams
  • Work with Project and Business Intelligence team as well as Paris and local IT teams to identify, design, and implement technological solutions for streamlining processes, identifying operational risks, and reporting findings to management

AMER ITO CCCO: ensures the protection of Corporate and Institutional Banking in the Americas (North and South) by overseeing Cyber and Corporate Security, Operational Resilience, IT/Cyber Governance, Risk and Controls. The team includes:

  • Business and IT Continuity: Provides oversight and governance of the programs to plan and respond effectively to crisis events and serious business and IT disruptions.
  • CIB Americas Operational Resilience: Drive the Bank transformation to ensure the vital businesses services will respond and recover from an adverse occurrence that may harm, destruct the ability to deliver those services according to the bank risk tolerance.
  • Corporate Security: Ensures the safety of employees, clients, visitors and protects the firm’s assets and reputation.
  • Information (Cyber) Security: Protects the Bank’s information from external and internal threats by defining and ensuring implementation of proper IT security framework and controls;

  • Operations Operational Permanent Control: provides strategic direction to maintaining a robust and effective risk and control framework that respects internal guidelines and procedures issued and governed by control functions as well as the external regulatory and supervisory requirements

CIB IT: Responsible for IT development, business/technical analysis, project, maintenance and support for the large range of applications within the Americas region, covering all CIB business areas such as Global Markets, Global Banking, Client Engagement & Protection, Securities Services and ALMT. We work closely with our business partners and users as part of the global team to understand new requirements from clients, exchanges, industry, regulators and other stakeholders, and code against those requirements to enhance our platforms. The team also dedicates a large amount of time and effort to contribute to the overall platform engineering strategy to enhance our resiliency, stability and scalability across businesses and applications. Our services include métier-dedicated technology support and IT platform management for Americas, which strives for excellence and fully aligns with the group’s strategic goals. APS: Responsible for the Americas Production Platform to ensure applications and associated services are monitored and incident resolution is managed and resolved to have the least or no disruption to the business. APS teams work closely with Business on a daily basis to provide IT functional and Technical support (Level 1 and Level 2) to the business under a common set of processes and tools. APS teams are responsible for Change management to keep the platform up to date with application related changes, security patching and obsolescence management. BUSINESS OVERVIEW:

The Strategy & Transformation (S&T) organization partners with BNP Paribas’ executive management and senior leadership to design and drive strategically important initiatives and projects, supporting the development and transformation of the Bank in the region. The Transversal Change (TRAC) team is a rotational leadership development program covering the five S&T sub-teams. The Head of TRAC builds, oversees, and evolves the program while also delivering core consulting projects to maintain connectivity to BNPP’s Business Lines and Functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently identify and analyze complex business problems and proactively develop innovative and sustainable solutions using consulting frameworks and other problem-solving tools
  • Analyze market data, extract competitive insights and market intelligence, and identify strategic growth opportunities

Business Overview:

The Global Banking Regulations (“GBR”) group is a Compliance global team covering Structural Banking Reform (CFTC Swap Dealer, SEC Security-Based Swap Dealer, French Banking Law, and Volcker Rule). With respect to the CFTC Swap Dealer and the SEC Security-Based Swap Dealer requirements, GBR’s key missions are to:

  • Organize and contribute to supervise the compliance program for Swap Dealer rules, both within the registered perimeter and for unregistered entities;
  • Monitor, analyze and advise on the implementation of proposed and final rules promulgated by the CFTC, SEC and NFA on swaps and security-based swaps;
  • Oversee the Volcker Rule and French Banking Law compliance program in the Americas region.
  • Report and escalate to senior management; regulatory developments, progress on regulatory initiatives, issues, violations or other matters of interest.

Responsibilities: 

In addition to the general roles described below the Senior Swap Dealer Compliance Officer will also:

  • Provide coverage as and when required of senior management meetings (for example; Swap Dealer Operating Committee, Swap Dealer Management Committee, Sec Corp CEO monthly meeting) at the direction of the Head of GBR U.S.
  • Act as subject matter expert for all matters relating to the Swap Dealer.
  • Participates in the preparation, and timely filing, of various swap dealer reports, including NFA Member Questionnaire, Annual CCO Report, Risk Exposure Report and NFA Monthly risk report (as needed).
  • Serve as additional regulatory compliance contact for the CFTC and NFA on certain complex inquiries, audits and enforcement actions.
  • Notify management immediately of any identified regulatory risks, and deliver all work product in a timely manner.

For the regulations that are primarily within the scope of responsibilities of the Global Banking and Regulations team such as the CFTC Swap Dealer regulations and other new regulations, the Senior Compliance Officer will participate in the following duties for the U.S.:

  • Monitor and analyze proposed and final rules promulgated by U.S. financial regulators.
  • Represent BNP Paribas in industry working groups dedicated to advocacy, interpretation and implementation of new and proposed regulations.
  • Assess the impact of new rules and regulations to existing policies in the U.S. and overseas, and work with local and global implementation teams to implement regulatory change.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to local and overseas management, business lines, and functions, and on regulatory risks and challenges through the evaluation of regulatory developments, bring relevant expertise and provide advisory services to the Business Lines and Group Control Functions on the above regulations.
  • Advise the Business Lines and Functions on registration requirements for existing and proposed activities
  • Draft and adapt Group policies, procedures and guidelines to reflect any change in regulations or processes, reasonably designed to support compliance with applicable regulatory obligations, corporate requirements and industry best practices.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives if required.
  • Contribute to build and deploy Level 2 permanent control capabilities, advise and assist (as needed) Compliance Review Team efforts in their testing of first- and second-level controls related to in-scope regulations; contribute as needed the risk assessment at Group and business unit levels in coordination with relevant internal and external parties as the case may be.
  • Contribute to the deployment of a robust training plan at Group level and definition of the standards in conjunction with GBR training referent HR partners. Develop training materials and provide training to other compliance advisors, the business and key functions. 
  • Facilitate audits and controls by level 3 control teams (Inspection Générale) and external regulators
  • Contribute to responses to external regulators, both on a regular basis as per legal requirements, and upon request. 
  • Contribute to any internal reports and regional governance required within the Group (e.g. CIRCC, ComEx, Management Committees and Board meetings).
  • On a case-by-case basis, provide Advisory services to the Business for specific new transactions or activities for which LEGAL, RISK and/or Compliance desk advisory teams require definitive GBR position and/or require a supporting second opinion.
  • Participate in the Business Line governance as needed and cascade of review meetings if agreed with the business lines (ex: sub-ICC participation within CIB).

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years investment banking experience with a broker-dealer, swap dealer, and/or related legal or regulatory experience (e.g. Former Securities and Exchange Commission).
  • Working knowledge of US and International G10 regulations in the area of structural bank reform and OTC derivatives; ability to provide oral and written advice on the go.
  • Strong capabilities to spot and anticipate issues when reviewing the Risk Assessment and Internal Control plans. 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills (documentation, issue tracking, effective coordination). Ability to frame and document complex issues in order to prepare for senior managers decisions
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to foster collaboration within the team and with key partners: Legal, other Compliance teams and departments, Risk-ORM, operating perimeters and other control functions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly on complex and possibly sensitive topics to C-level managers in the BNP Paribas regional and central organization
  • Keen sensitivity to risks; rigor and independence in addressing those risks  
  • Strong work ethic and Compliance mindset; integrity and an ability to work autonomously 
  • Strong team player.

  • JD or MBA, with preference to Business or Finance majors. 
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a Swap Dealer Compliance office position or similar role in Compliance/Legal or Risk departments covering above-referenced regulations.

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $115,000 to $200000 annually. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.
